Happy Monday! Are you enjoying the cool temps like I am today?! (Thank you, Lord, for the nice break!)
I've unofficially made Monday my "tips for using scraps" day.
My "trick" today you may have already thought of yourself–especially after having seen a few of my previous scrap samples.
Easy Scrap Use–make a pennant! It's PERFECT!
- We often end up with skinny little strips that I'm tempted to throw away and not deal with.
- They are a great way to add a cool design–pop of color–to a card without using up all your DSP. And that's a great trick for you "hoarders" out there that want to keep your cool DSP all to yourself!
My first sample is from my Betsy Meets Dot class from last week. Such a simple card, but it may have been one of the favorites of the night.
It shows both designs of the DSP from Polka Dot Parade (all six colors of the pack have both of these designs–front & back.)
If you look closely, you'll notice the [different sized circles of] paper piercing. I LOVE that technique/tool! The new Essentials Templates have lots of circle sizes plus many other shapes.
I honestly don't even think the card needs the piercing, but……..please refer to my last comment….LOVE PAPER PIERCING!!
(Speaking of which, did you see the new Festive Templates in the Holiday Mini [pg 30]? They're on their way here now.)
These 2 cards were a couple of my thank you notes for last month. Again–perfect use of a scrap to add just a little pop to a simple card.

I have always struggled making those pennant tails even! So I came up with the idea of starting from the center….I can "eyeball" the center better than I can "eyeball" angles.
To make the perfect pennant:
- Cut the strip of DSP down the middle
of the length to as far as you would like the tails to start.
- Cut the angle from the corner to the centered end.
- Cut the 2nd angle to meet that center.
Now you can go make your own pennant card out of scraps! Have fun!

Have a great week!
