More Blown-Glass Ornaments!

Hello!!

Todd and I took another glass-blowing class last week! We made ornaments last year, and Todd wanted another shot at making one. I “won” last year. 😉 Ultimately, Todd wasn’t completely happy with his color choices and loved mine. 😀 He wanted something more striking; I chose a design that was less interactive but had a cool, different design we don’t have.

Here’s part of the process.

Here’s my colored glass pieces before it’s added to the molten glass.

This is the “feathered” look….Rather than twisting the color with tweezers, it’s rolled and dragged before shaping. Then it’s reheated and lines are pulled through the molten glass on opposite sides.

We were looking for something that would show up well against our tree. We both considered making this cool white ornament that had a mix of translucent and opaque glass pieces. We ended up just buying this extra ornament so we could have all 3 designs. It’s honestly not a great pic, and holding it at the window didn’t help since it wasn’t sunny at all. It will look great on the tree!

We found out they’ll be doing more ornaments in the spring. If you’re interested in doing a class, you need to be on Grand Rapids Glassblowing email mailing list. And then you need to respond to their email–pretty much immediately–when they open classes. The classes close quickly! (between an hour and a week, at least for fall pumpkins and Christmas ornaments)
